Their health plans and products are present in more than 130 countries. The company is composed of two complementary business units with a shared purpose of transforming the industry. They provide patients with healthcare coverage and other benefits such as pharmacy and financial services, as well as research and technology solutions for healthcare professionals.
As a result, this multinational is actively generating better experiences for patients and physicians. UHG was considered the second-largest healthcare company by revenue in 2019 and in 2020 it ranked 7th on the Fortune 500 list.

After 40 years in business, UHG was compelled to standardize their presence across the multiple web platforms they’ve built over time. The UHG brand was represented on various websites and online platforms without synchronized aesthetics or code. In addition, they felt the need to make their development process more efficient by creating components that could be applied across platforms.

We became their development team for this project through Periscope, a marketing company we’ve partnered with to build digital products on several occasions. While they created the design system, we were responsible for translating the UI elements into a custom framework that UHG developers would later use to build new web pages and adapt existing ones.
The solution we created is a responsive framework that contains CSS and JavaScript-based templates for different interface components, such as typography, buttons, forms, etc.
How it works

Software developers access the framework and select the component they’re looking for.
Custom UI
In that specific component’s page, developers can check its UI view and the code behind it.
Copy and paste
In order to use it, they have to copy and paste the code, and add the content it should display such as text or images.

Every element is built so the UI adapts in order to perfectly fit all kinds of browsers and devices.
Reports
Users can generate reports and compare metrics over time, as well as assign roles and responsibilities.

As this was a time sensitive project, we needed to act fast in order to come up with a solution in only 2 months. Our greatest challenges were making the code 100% responsive despite the content users would add to it, and building a solution that could be accessed from any browser, even the oldest. For that, our devs conducted meticulous testing processes to validate the solution was compatible to every browser and device on the market.
As a result, we came up with a fully responsive framework that provides developers with elements that adjust perfectly to their specifications. It also works in sync with any other framework or layout builders that UHG teams may use when creating a new web platform or other apps.
