Tus Giros is a startup that facilitates international money transfers

They operate in countries across Latin America. Since their creation in 2019, they’ve delivered over 50 thousand successful transactions, worth more than 2 million dollars.

The company was founded by a group of serial entrepreneurs who were global. They wanted to shorten the distance between relatives and friends living in different countries by using technology to eliminate barriers and wanted to make cash transfers easier, faster and cheaper.

A complex operation goes digital

Tus Giros provides a service for transferring money from one country to another through cryptocurrencies at both an affordable cost and in record time. This innovative mechanism enables people to send money abroad digitally in an easier, more economic way compared to traditional options.

Tus Giros has a team in every country where they operate and, originally, their processes were managed via Excel spreadsheets and the communication with clients over Whatsapp. Can you imagine? These shared, complex documents were highly susceptible to human error and lack of transparency. Also, it wasn't clear how they'd successfully scale the business with such a heavy-staffed operation. This led the executive team to look for a tech partner to create an automated, digital product as soon as possible. Coming up with a self-managed, tech platform would be critical to scale their services and explore new markets.

First, they worked with freelance developers and even though they managed to build a prototype, it wasn’t a complete solution, presenting errors and lacking key functionalities. The project stretched over time, consuming valuable time and resources without producing results. They decided to look for a more robust partner to provide a full development team.

Fintech app development in less than a month

Delivering functional, user-friendly Django fintech software

When we started working together, our goal was to systematize the entire process behind the money transfer transaction and translate it into a back office app. We immersed ourselves in the client’s operations in order to fully understand the steps and stakeholders involved.

The client wanted to leave the spreadsheets behind and evolve their transactions, making them more efficient, transparent, and secure. We understood the urgency of their time to market needs and delivered a functional solution in less than one month, an MVP that included the most important features.

Later, we moved the project forward by adding UX designers to the process in order to evolve the user flows and make sure we were truly solving their clients' needs. For that, we created wireframes and validated the product idea first with the business stakeholders. Then, we designed navigable prototypes in order to validate with frequent users and get their feedback as well.

Do you want to transform your business and your users’ lives?

A solution for a variety of potential users

We had to consider how to best manage sensitive data, such as personal identifiers, bank accounts, currency exchange info, payment methods, and more, which could also change from country to country. To guarantee a safe, productive process, we integrated the platform with Mati, a software that verifies users personal information using biometric data and facial recognition.

Tus Giros services are used by people of all ages and contexts, so we put a lot of focus on the User Experience to come up with a user-friendly design and straightforward flows, even in mobile, the main device used by their clients. It was challenging to translate such a complex, sensitive process like any involving money to a simple step-by-step that makes users confident of the process and expected results.

To overcome the potential risks, we put ourselves in the users’ shoes and strived to empathize with their expectations during the user testing interviews. One of the most important insights we received was regarding language aspects. Even though the majority of Tus Giros speak Spanish, the different language nuances from country to country were key for us to understand how to present the product in each location.

With their feedback, we also understood what firsthand information they needed to see from moment 0 and what data was more secondary and didn't need to be displayed in a highlighted way.

A solid foundation for next iterations

A solid foundation for next iterations

In order to fulfill our client’s expectations in terms of time and budget, we opted for Django and combined the framework's benefits with our own customizations in order to launch a successful MVP as soon as possible.

Today, besides making processes more productive and agile, the system also provides their team with key metric reports that highlight business health. We managed that by integrating the software with BI solutions using Quicksight from AWS. It was important for the client to have insightful data sources to analyze their business situation and make more informed decisions.

In addition, the platform provides Tus Giros team with traceability and efficiency. The information is clear and accessible, and the system also collects data automatically from third-party integrations, making customer service much more successful.

Nowadays, with the platform operating in different countries, we have adjusted its features and permissions according to each legislation. We are continuously working on details to make the users’ experience with the platform better, the latest improvements have been a calculator to simulate the transaction and learn exactly how much the user is going to pay in their own currency when sending money to a different country.
